AMD Announces More Processor Releases

AMD rather silently released two more energy-efficient Athlon desktop processors with a TDP of 45W. Both the Athlon X2 4450e and the Athlon X2 4050e are dual-core Socket AM2/AM2+ processors clocked at 2.3GHz and 2.1GHz respectively. They are built on 65nm technology and feature 1MB of L2 cache.

They followed that announcement up with the announced availability of three new AMD Phenom X3 triple-core processors. The new Phenom X3 chips fill out AMD's family of X86 triple cores, as the new X3 8450, the X3 8650 and the X3 8750 which join the Phenom X3 8000 series that was unveiled last March.

Like the newest quad-cores, these Phenom X3s are the latest version, the B3 stepping, which resolves the flaw in a CPU cache, the Translation Lookaside Buffer or TLB, that hurt the performance of early Barcelona processors. They will be looking to bundle the Phenom X3 chips with its 780 graphics silicon in low-cost gaming PCs.
