TIME's Best Inventions of 2008

Time magazine has released their list of the "50 Best Inventions of 2008".

The list is comprised of small ticket items like high tech running shoes, the seven new deadly sins and Spore - The everything game and very large ticket items like the Large Hadron Collider. But the item Time thought was the top invention of 2008 was the Retail DNA Test from 23AndMe. The $399 saliva test estimates your predisposition for more than 90 traits and conditions ranging from baldness to blindness.

The 600,000 genetic markers that 23andMe identifies and interprets for each customer are "the digital manifestation of you," says Wojcicki (pronounced Wo-jis-key), 35, who majored in biology and was previously a health-care investor. "It's all this information beyond what you can see in the mirror."

Here are some of the items on the list that I think stand out:
  1. The Tesla Roadster, its ranked number 2 on their list, persoanlly I think these things are pretty cool.
  2. The Peraves MonoTracer, ranked number 41 on the Time list, this thing looks like its straight out of the Tron movie. Its a motorcycle with a cockpit featuring most of the comforts of a car on two wheels.
  3. The invisibility Cloak, ranked 28, common who doesn't want one?
  4. The Speedo LZR Razer, ranked 26, 94% of Olympic swimming races won in Beijing were won by athletes wearing the LZR. Even Michael Phelps wears this thing.
  5. The Memristor, luck number 13 on the Time list. We can expect to see great things from this little invention in the coming years, just wait and see.
Here is the full list for anyone that doesn't want to click through all 50 pages one at a time.
