Retailers are getting an early jump on orders of the, yet to be announced, Phenom II line. Leaked chip details as well as pricing are already making their way to the web a few weeks ahead of the company's processor announcement plans for early January.
Computers4Sure, an Office Depot subsidiary, has listed both the Phenom II 920 at $271 and the Phenom II 940 at $303, with a number of other sites turning up in our Google Shopping results.
AMD reportedly plans to announce the chips next month at the International Consumer Electronics Show to be held in Las Vegas between January 8 and 11. Information on the new Phenom II line-up has slowly been trickling out since Novemeber when AMD released a sneak peek of the CPUs overclocking abilities.
Presumably, we will see immediate availability following their official launch in January. The Phenom II 920 and 940 are said to be compatible with several of AMD’s older AM2+ motherboards, a move meant to help easy their adoption on the market. Chips supporting DDR3 memory and AM3 motherboards will arrive roughly a month after the initial launch and are expected to maintain compatibility with AM2+ boards as well.
