Apple Updates The iMac As It Becomes Super Thin

We previously mentioned that Apple unveiled the iPad Mini today but that wasn't the only thing in Apple bag of goodies. Apple also revealed updated version of its Macbook Pro, now with retina display, and two super slim ultra-sleek iMac desktop computers.

These brand new all-in-one machines feature an impressive looking display with an aluminum and glass enclosure that Apple has managed to trim down to 40 percent less volume than its predecessor. The edge measures a scant 5 mm thin thanks to something called “friction stir welding.” The display comes in two sizes: The 27-inch model has a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution, and the 21.5-inch model has a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. There’s a 178-degree viewing angle and over 300 nits of brightness (that’s really bright). It’s also fully laminated so it reduces reflection by 75 percent.

For internals the new desktops will feature third generation quad-core Intel Core i5 processors that can be upgraded to Core i7. For graphics users will find options featuring the latest NVIDIA GeForce 600 graphics processors. Every new iMac comes standard with 8GB of 1600 MHz memory and a 1TB hard drive, and customers can choose to configure their iMac with up to 32GB of memory and a new 3TB hard drive, or 768GB of flash storage for ultimate performance. There is also the option of Apple's newly introduced Fusion drive that mixes 1TB or 3TB of normal storage and 128GB of flash. Fusion Drive adapts to the way you use your iMac and automatically moves the files and apps you use most often to flash storage to enable faster performance and quicker access.

The new iMac gets rid of the optical drive, much like the latest Macbooks but adds two Thunderbolt ports as well as 4 USB 3.0 ports, a headphone port, SD card slot, Gigabit Ethernet port, and naturally, it comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse.
